Gecko Group worked closely with the Maryland Zoo team to identify navigation issues that visitors were having. Diverse exhibits with different pathways to include extensive boardwalk areas mandated that the system needed to be scalable and flexible. After a thorough site assessment, exploration of various design solutions, and visitor testing, a new wayfinding system was implemented zoo wide.

Distinct exhibit areas were identified and coded with icons and iconic species images. Color was also used to help identify areas and highlighted on a new map and visitor guide.
